Community Capacity Building Initiative
"People closest to the problem are more likely to find appropriate and sustainable solutions to the problem. Therefore, equip more citizens with the capacity to lead, and you'll build a thriving Community." -Ian Hill, Award Winning Community Builder
Lac La Ronge Region is an awarded Community as part of the BECOMING A COMMUNITY BUILDER community capacity building initiative! The initiative has been launched to grow Community Leadership Capacity in La Ronge, Air Ronge, Lac La Ronge Indian Band and surrounding areas.
BECOMING A COMMUNITY BUILDER is a 90 day, competency based, community and professional leadership development program. The program offers two distinct learning tracks: one for adult community members and the other for high school students. It is offered free of charge to an unlimited number of participants throughout the community.
The Initiative has been brought to by the Lac La Ronge Region through the efforts of community members from the Town of La Ronge Village of Air Ronge and Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
We are so excited to have been selected as a Lighthouse Community and know that the program will make a significant impact.
The key objectives that community representatives have identified are:
· Engage and develop leadership capacity amongst youth
· Revitalize the sense of community and increase initiatives developed and
implemented by community for community across the region
· Increase community participation through volunteerism
The initiative has been designed and is facilitated by Ian Hill, recognized humanitarian, social entrepreneur, business leader and award winning community change agent.
Hill commented, “We believe that Rural Communities are relevant in the 21st century and that Community success always boils down to leadership. Community Leadership Capacity is the key”. He continued “Community Leadership Capacity is leadership excellence of both formal and informal leaders within all sectors, silos, and corners of a community.”
Hill said, “We are excited to have Lac La Ronge Region awarded. They were selected because we believe the Organizing Committee and Community will be a great example of what can happen when a Community makes an all out commitment to develop informal leaders in the Community.”
Community members can REGISTER for the free leadership development program by going to www.register14f.becomingacommunitybuilder.ca. Hill will be spending time in the community to help launch the program on Thursday, September 17. This day will feature a series of both formal and informal activities to learn more about the program, register and meet program staff and Mr. Hill.
